About Dr. Alvand J. Sehat

Dr. Alvand J. Sehat is a fellowship-trained bariatric, foregut, and minimally invasive surgeon dedicated to providing personalized surgical care using the latest laparoscopic, robotic, and endoscopic techniques. He specializes in hernia surgery, foregut surgery, and the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), helping patients achieve excellent outcomes with less pain and faster recovery.

Alvand J. Sehat, MD

Dr. Sehat earned his Medical Doctorate from UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas. He completed his residency in General Surgery at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, where he served as Administrative and Academic Chief Resident. He subsequently completed fellowship training in Bariatric and Foregut Surgery at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas, where he received advanced training in minimally invasive surgery, robotic surgery, foregut surgery, bariatric surgery, and advanced endoscopy.

Dr. Sehat performs a broad range of hernia procedures, including:

  • Laparoscopic and robotic inguinal hernia repair
  • Laparoscopic and robotic ventral hernia repair
  • Incisional hernia repair
  • Umbilical hernia repair
  • Recurrent hernia repair
  • Hiatal hernia repair

Through his fellowship training in Bariatric and Foregut Surgery, Dr. Sehat gained extensive experience treating complex foregut disorders, including recurrent hiatal hernias, paraesophageal hernias, GERD, and revisional foregut surgery. He also has expertise in advanced endoscopy and comprehensive reflux evaluation, including Bravo pH testing, esophageal manometry, and EndoFLIP. He utilizes minimally invasive and robotic techniques whenever appropriate to help patients achieve durable results with less pain and faster recovery.

His academic interests include bariatric surgery, foregut surgery, minimally invasive hernia repair, and surgical education. He has presented research focused on laparoscopic and robotic hernia repair education for surgical trainees and remains committed to advancing evidence-based surgical care.

Personal Life

Originally from Texas, Dr. Sehat enjoys spending time with his wife and their three dogs, art, reading, and exploring Southern California.
